Why Are We So Special?

We're Special Because of Our Staff

We'd like to tell you that we're so special because we're more caring, more compassionate, more loving than all the other veterinarians in New York City or Yorktown. That may be true, certainly, but for the most part, veterinary medicine is a profession filled with caring and compassionate people.

We're special not only because of our care and compassion..... but because of our passion for our chosen professions. It's not enough for a doctor to be brilliant, or technically proficient (although we believe all of our doctors are that).  What's just as important is being able to communicate, to bond with your pet, to be intuitive, and most of all to be passionate about the art of veterinary medicine. And passionate about working with pet owners who love their pets and want  the best care for their pets in New York City and Westchester County.

And although we certainly expect high level competency in our technical staff (nurses, vet assistants, exam room assistants, etc), we don't hire people based only on that. We hire people because we like them, and we hope that you will like them too. We hire people because they like working with pets and people too!

We hire our employees because we know how much you and your pet can depend on them to keep the lines of communication open, to explain details, to calm your nervous pet, to calm you as well. Sometimes going the to vet can be stressful, especially when your pet is sick, and we want people there working with you and your pet that you'll both like and trust.

We're Special Because of the Way We Practice Medicine

We do something at our hospitals that nobody else in the area does, and that makes us very special. We are the ONLY hospitals in the greater New York area that combine high quality Western Medicine (as in surgery, antibiotics, advanced medical therapeutics, etc) with Eastern and Alternative Medicine (such as Acupuncture, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Bach Flowers, Glandular Therapy, etc). Dr. Raclyn and Dr. Kasanofsky are both trained in Veterinary Acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Herbal Therapy and are well educated and experienced in other realms of alternative medicine.

Our goal is to cure, as well as to prevent disease, and whether that means using Antibiotics or Chinese Herbs, Surgery or Acupuncture, we always try to remember that ultimate goal. If you prefer that we use only one particular mode of healing, we will be happy to do so unless we feel it is not in your pet's best interest. Both Dr. Raclyn and Dr. Kasanofsky have completed the IVAS post graduate training course and are both Certified Veterinary Acupuncturists. The International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) is the only governing body permitted to certify veterinarians to practice acupuncture.

We're well aware of the wonders of 20th Century medicine, and we use everything it has to offer our pets every day, from advanced surgical techniques to Stem Cell Therapy. What's different is the way that we integrate high quality Western Medicine with Alternative and Complementary Medicine.   Whether you're looking for high tech, high quality Western Medicine, strictly Holistic Medical Care, or the Intergrative Medical approach that we favor, we are the only practices in the Greater New York area that can offer such services. There is no other practice in NYC or the Westchester area with as many years experience in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Alternative Medicine as our doctors have.

Being a holistic veterinary practice means that our doctors will look at the whole problem, not just focus in on the obvious. We look for underlying causes in diet and lifestyle, and try to effect a cure in a safe and timely manner using both Conventional and Complementary therapies. And we'll use any safe method that we think can help your pet stay healthy or get healthy.

 Does This Mean We're Quacks?

AAHANothing could be further from the truth. We're cynical New Yorkers to a degree, and we know that there are many "quacks" out there in the world of alternative medicine. That is precisely why we pursued and obtained certification from the American Animal Hospital Association. AAHA is the only organization that accredits animal hospitals throughout the U.S. & Canada. AAHA-accredited hospitals adhere to the highest-quality standards available, which helps ensure the best care for your pet. Obtaining this certification is a long and arduous process, and we're very proud of it. Make no mistake about it, these are busy, high quality, serious hospitals and excellent doctors. We simply have more tools in our toolbox to cure your pets with.

When we began integrating some alternative therapies into our regiments for sick pets, many other veterinarians did think we were "quacks". But we were only ahead of our time. When we started, the use of Chondro-protective agents, Essential Fatty Acids, Probiotics, Nutraceuticals was unheard of. Today these products are on the shelves of almost every animal hospital across the country. And the products and regiments that we use today will soon be accepted as Standard Operating Procedure across the veterinary field as well. We are STILL ahead of our time in animal care in NYC!
